Before you read on let us first learn some basics about 3D printing, which will be explained later in greater detail. The starting point for any 3D printing process is a 3D digital model, which can be created using a variety of 3D software programs. The only limitations to 3D printing is the amount of material you have. The most common and recognized material would be plastics, Ex. PLA and ABS. When using plastics, the process is as follows: extruding the material in filament form through a heated extruder to form layers and create the predetermined shape. Because parts can be printed directly, it is possible to produce very detailed and intricate objects. As well as technology, there are multiple processes for 3D printing. The very first being Stereolithography (SL). SL is a very accurate laser–based process that works with photopolymer resins (see picture one).
