Absorption Fraction Feedback Plotss For The Study Area
Absorption Fraction Feedback plots for the Study area during 2012–2015 ISMR: Figure 16: AFF plots for ISMR of (a) 2012, (b) 2013, (c) 2014 and (d) 2015
Figure 16 depicts AFF plots for the four years. For an illustrative purpose, Rainfall intensity data was also included in the plots and represented by varying colours (Figure 16). By following Group Method of Data Handling(GMDH) (Ivakhnenko & Ivakhnenko, 1995), a polynomial fit was done to the cluster of data points for each of the years, to visualize the theoretically predicted nature of aerosols on cloud cover. During 2012 ISMR, the microphysical effect (the increase in CF with AOD) got saturated at AOD value of nearly 0.6 for CF value of around 0.95. While ... These data were incorporated in to the AFF model to observe the microphysical and radiative effects of the aerosol on cloud cover. The spatial and temporal variations of AOD, CF and RF in addition with other ancillary parameters like AE, AI, CER, LWP and OLR were studied. Also, the vertical distribution of aerosols and clouds from CALIPSO data were analysed in the present study. The results can be summarized as follows: a) During 2012 ISMR, there was high aerosol loading over the region in June and due to late arrival of monsoons the region witnessed low rainfall intensity. This can be inferred from the low values of seasonally averaged CER and LWP, and also from the monthly AOF and COF plots. This explains the microphysical effect dominating over the region. Rest of the months had normal rainfall events over the region and the same was observed in the rainfall deviation plots. b) In 2013 ISMR, heavy washout of aerosols during June by early onset of monsoons led to decrease in the aerosol concentrations which in turn reduced the inhibiting nature of microphysical effect of aerosols on cloud cover. The seasonal AOD was low over the region. Also the CER was comparably high compared to other ISMR years which might be associated with the high rainfall intensity during this
