The 2012 report published by the Coalition on the Academic Workforce (CAW) found 75.5 percent of postsecondary faculty were contingent or adjunct. It should be noted that CAW statistics also included graduate assistants and non–tenure–track faculty (Coalition on the Academic Workforce, 2012). Like other professionals, part–time instructors and adjunct faculty positions complain about being underpaid and underappreciated (Townsend, 2000).
