But the truth is that they are two different animals, not they same animal in two different stages. Here are some differences between horses and ponies.
One difference is the height. A hand is about 4 inches. If you measured a regular sized horse with hands it would be at least 14.2 hands (or about four feet ten inches). A pony on the other hand, a regular sized pony equine less than 14.2 hands.
Another difference is there coats. A pony has a thicker coat then a horse. While the hairs of a horse usually are fine and thin while a pony's hair will provide a thick layer that will make the pony appear big. That helps the pony stay warm in colder weather.
