This website stuck out to me and I had to choose it. My niece Lyla was diagnosed with Leukemia in March and is starting to feel the effects of the cancer more and more everyday. Her body aches and any information that I can find that can help her in any way I want to know it. The tumor can be causing spinal compression, which is when it is pressing on the spinal cord or bone pain when the cancer spans to the bones. Pain can also stem from the cancer treatments, such as procedures and testing, surgical pain, phantom pain, and side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments. This can be connected to the OTA because knowing these facts, about cancer pain, can better help your patients on the road to recovery. As an OTA we might be able to assist the patient with pain management and adaptive techniques in order for them to complete their ADLs and IADLs to their best ability. Examples could be educating them on uses of adaptive equipment and also joint protection so it can decrease the likelihood of injury and further pain. It think this would be useful to the clients because having them know the basics of their cancer pain can help the doctors in treating them and the caregivers in explaining, if needed. As far as the caregiver, they are going to have a lot of responsibility in regards to helping the client.
