We have used daily AOD Level 2 Aerosol product from collection 5.1, at 10 km x 10 km spatial resolution for JJAS of given study years. The AOD derived using Deep blue algorithm at 550 nm has been considered in the study as it provides the best estimate over land (especially bright surfaces). The algorithm, assumes that there is lower surface reflectance in the blue part of the visible spectra than in the red part, and this is used to retrieve AOD values for geographical regions with surface reflectance greater than 0.15 (Hsu et al., 2004). Such reflectance typically occurs in desert, arid, semi–arid, and urban geographical regions. IMD daily gridded rainfall data and other Ancillary Products: The daily gridded rainfall data at spatial resolution of 0.25º x 0.25º covering the entire Indian region obtained from National Climate Centre (NCC), Pune, of India Meteorological Department (IMD) is used for the present study. The gridded data is developed by interpolating the point observations from a network of rainguage stations, by using inverse distance weighted interpolation (IDW) scheme (Pai et al., 2014). The aerosol Angstrom Exponent (AE), Liquid water cloud effective particle radius (CER), Liquid water cloud water path (LWP) of MODIS Aqua; Aerosol Index (AI) from OMI (Ozone Monitoring Instrument); and Outgoing Long wave Radiation (OLR) from AIRS (Atmospheric Infrared Sounder) are used as ancillary parameters to study the nature of aerosol effect on cloud cover and precipitation.
