Power, whether assumed or delegated is significant in the achievement of productive functionality in societies. As prevalent through history and culture, it becomes the vice of oppression and tyranny through the abuse of power by those who hold it. The freedom of the vulnerable become slaves of inequality in unjust societies. George Orwell's allegorical novella, Animal Farm and Langston Hughes' provocative poem "Let America be America Again" effectively explore equality and freedom as nothing but a fallacy due to the narcissism and avarice in societies.

The idiom highlights the human folly of greed where the minority groups' liberty is a farfetched fallacy. "Of grab the land! Of grab the gold!" employs imagery and anaphora to reinforce the fight involved in surviving whilst inducing an emotive response from the readers. The word choice of "grab" and use of exclamation point emphasises the high modality of the language, demonstrating the author's strong contempt of the ideology "of owning everything for one's own greed!" Hughes exhibits the avarice in society through "I am the worker sold to the machine" with the machine metaphorically resembling the America System that disappointed him and the American Dream.
