IRONY I think this is very ironic. The mob come to kill Tom Robinson Atticus says that he is sleeping, so the mob start to whisper instead of talking loud. The only evidence against Tom were two eye witness accounts, of which he denies. Plus, the whole jury is white and in this case the white jury is not going to indict a white man. ALLUSION(FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE) There are two allusions in this quote. One is the phrase "all men are created equal." That phrase was said in the Declaration of Independence. The importance of this allusion, in this context, is to show that all men are created equal no matter their skin color. The second allusion is Einstein. Einstein was a very smart man who made many breakthroughs. PLOT This quote show a part of the climax in the Tom Robinson plot line. This is a part of the turning point in the case. Atticus is urging the jury to look at the facts and disregard the color of tom's skin. But this doesn't happen, Tom gets wrongfully indicted.
SIMILE(FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE) This quote contains a simile. The simile is comparing the Boo Radley house doors to every other wood door in the neighborhood. Since the Radley rarely sees people go in and out the doors are closed tightly. This similer's importance is to show how still and deserted everything
