Topic: How New Zealand wine has become a success in global marketplace in such a relatively short time.
In the global marketplace, wine has always acted as a catalyst for economic development. New Zealand being responsible for less than 1% of the global production of wines (NZ Wines, 2014), The New Zealand wines came into global attention in 1980's with its production of one of the best quality wine, Sauvignon blanc in no time gained an international reputation of producing quality and boutique wines (Howland, 2014). Noted for cool climate wines slow ripened, intense and with fresh acidity (Howland, 2014, p. 1), Central to their success is New Zealand's maritime climate, temperature and unabated passion of New Zealand wine producers and the highly distinctive flavour profile and wine styles (NZ Wines, 2014).
This report provides an elaborate view of social, cultural and economic view of New Zealand wine including its history, grape varieties wine regions and the future of New Zealand wine. Throughout I will also be making comparisons with the internationally recognized wine regions and competitors like Bordeaux and Burgundy.
The origin and the early history of wine making in New Zealand is not known. However, it is known that Marsden introduced the grape vine in 1819, and an English man James Busby produced wine on his Waitangi estate
