My Yoga Pants



Another day I wake up and stand in front of the mirror, pulling my hair back and onto my day. I could tell you I was doing this daily because it felt easier than doing my hair and putting on some mascara; but the truth is, the reflection staring back at me was starting to change. I thought I had no reason to get dressed, excuse that fact that I need to feel good about myself. I'm a mom now and I work from home at that....I was feeling more comfortable while hiding behind my hat and shades.



My moments of looking at myself were getting shorter and shorter on purpose. In those moments I had thoughts like, "You're getting bags under your eyes?" and "There's no way you can be aging that fast."



It felt easier just to cover up and walk away. I was starting to feel less–than.

I don't look at them and think, "Sorry mama, those days are over for you, step aside and live in those sweats because that is all you can get away with now."



When I see my kids, my sisters, or friends pick themselves apart, they are pointing out something I don't see in them. I hate to hear that certain parts of themselves bother them so much. I understand it, though. And I don't believe it has anything to do with vanity.



No matter who you are, if you you see yourself changing, especially as you get older, it's not the easiest thing to embrace.



I have wrinkles forming around my eyes because I laugh so much. I have some bags under my eyes because the last year I have been raising an energetic, curious young man who hates sleep;) I will wear these things differently now than I did before I felt that I could still be sassy but in a classy way at my age. Being able to see me was more important than what I looked
