Personal Narrative-Marching Band Competition
The Golden Triangle Looking up I could see four towering bright, blinding stadium light posts surrounding the stadium; these lights surrounded my world for twenty long minutes. My marching band had just finished our eight–minute marching show, afterwards we lined up in the end zone anxiously awaiting the final scores for the twenty–six bands that had performed throughout the day. My band was the last to perform which unfortunately meant we had to wait on the field for our scores in full uniform which includes: shorts, a t–shirt, long black socks, black hideous marching shoes, suspender like pants and an uncomfortable jacket with Michael Jackson shoulder pads. After twelve unbearably long minutes the announcers voice echoed around the stadium, " Welcome to the Golden Triangle Marching Band Competition!" Sunglasses, unbelievably high temperatures, and embarrassing farmers tans are some of the realities of marching band. Our show name was Rise, we all joked about "rising to the occasion", however I think the name of our show started the flame to our rise of determination and hope. Finally after years of a set low standard we were raising our expectations of our band for the first time in a long time. It was as if we had unanimously decided as a band to try harder and work for first place as a team. The loss of hope that had once plagued us had become obsolete in the stifling heat on the cement parking lot we practiced on daily.
