Reflection Paper
I sat on a short bus with 10 other kids I barely knew, tired, hungry, and dreading the next week. Shivering in the cool April morning air, I wished I was anywhere else in the world. The beach with my friends for spring break sounded nice or somewhere else warm where my alarm would not wake me up at six every morning. Yet with every mile marker we passed, the more the unsettled feeling in the pit of my gut began to dissipate. Eight hours and a very small dinner later found me unrolling a sleeping bag on a tile floor, grateful simply to sleep. As I closed my eyes that night, I asked God for two things – for the energy to get through the week and for this mission trip to be worth it. Five days later, I came home, slept for 15 hours, and woke up with a new perspective on life. In five days, 20 teenagers showed 60 kids the love of Christ, but 80 lives were changed. That blip of time in a busy year set about a chain reaction in every area of my life. As I center my entire life around God and fulfilling His will, scripture, truth, wisdom, and service have become more important than ever. Scripture is undeniably significant in the life of any believer, but I admit I did not completely understand this at one time. The Bible had significance as a symbol of my faith – the picture of a Christian handing a Bible to the guy in the seat next to him on an airplane, saying, "Read this and your life will be changed forever."
