Aesop wrote these fables over the course of centuries. All that is known about Aesop is that he was a Phrygian slave who was later freed by his Greek leader because of the wit and charm of his stories. The stories Aesop wrote about appear to have been legends and myths. He mostly wrote animal fables. More than a thousand children stories that contain animals are attributed to him.All his stories were told by mouth, people later recorded them giving him credit. Even as late as the Renaissance, many moral fables were still being attributed to Aesop. Many of the fables that surfaced were actually written and told by different authors.
