Andragogy And Experiential Learning Paper
Introduction There are different theories that have been applied to understand and help adults learn more effectively. Andragogy and experiential learning are being discussed individually in this paper to capture the essence of each theory in being practiced and applied. Once an understanding is obtained, I will then evaluate and try to apply these theories to my own life to help get the most out of the time I have and college and the rest of my life.
Andragogy
Malcom Knowles theory, andragogy, as cited by Chan, (2010), has six components: "self–concept; role of experience; readiness to learn; orientation to learning; internal motivation; and need to know," (Chan, 2010, pp 27–28). These six components are applied when an adult seeks education. There are many places and fields that this theory has been applied to help individuals beyond their adolescent years succeed in their training and learning experience, (Chan, 2010). Oddly enough the thought has crossed my mind and the following thought was "well, it is not required." I do think that no amount of money can be placed on an experience that one can apply to their life. I believe opportunities like this can mold one into who God intends them to be. As I had a chance to be interviewed recently, though I did not obtain the position, I was grateful to have learned more about me by participating in the interview. I trust that God has my best interest in mind. He will always prepare me for what He has in store by placing the opportunity in my journey.
