King Tutankhamun's death is believed to be of the the most fascinating mysteries in ancient Egypt. In an attempt to find an answer, plenty of different theories were created to explain how he died. It is however, believed that his death was caused by leg infection. Some popular theories include murder (by Ay and Horemheb) and as mentioned, leg infection. The question is, how did King Tutankhamun die?



Ay was known as King Tut's grand–uncle and grandfather and was believed to have murdered King Tut out of greed. After King Tut's death, he became pharaoh for a few years. Before King Tut became Pharaoh, Egyptian paintings and hieroglyphs showed Ay held many titles (Acting Scribe of the King, God's Father, Chief of Archers, etc.) which indicates he was trusted and respected by him. He was also his close adviser which meant he made most of his decisions for him along with Horemheb. This murder theory started when a famous Egyptologist (Bob Brier) discovered a crack in King Tut's skull.
