The definition for a la carte means choosing from a menu. If we use this term in cable television, a la carte would mean the customer would be able to purchase channels separately, without choosing a package. A la carte tends to be a little more costly to that of package, or bundled pricing. There are some customers demanding that both satellite and cable companies be required to sell, individually, each of the channels that they carry. While customers many may think that this would save them money, only being able to choose what they want, this in fact would actually end up being more expensive and leaving them with fewer choices.
