Reasons Why Children And Teens Run Away From Home


The article and the documentary depicted numerous reasons why children and teens ran away from home. It was apparent that some of the reasons were feasible as to why children and teens would run away from home. In the text Thompson and Pillai include "...Families that exhibit interfamily conflict, poor communication, dysfunction, abuse and/or neglect. For some, leaving is not a choice as they are forced out of their homes by parents either encouraging them to leave, abandoning them or subjecting them to intolerable levels of mistreatment" (142). There are many different reasons that play a major role as to why children and teens run away from home. In the documentary we see that one girl is adopted and doesn't know her real parents and feels like as if the parents who adopted her did not care for her. The boy in the documentary stated how his dad would kill him if he returned home and he was selling pot. The parents in the documentary seemed as if they didn't have much say with what the children and teens did. We saw how the young girl smoked as the parent stated "she has grown up quite a bit since she has been on the streets she is 14 going on 21". The parents seem scared of the future pertaining to their children but I did not see much action as if they were attempting to change their children. Their viewpoint seemed to be more lenient they allowed there children do things that most parents would not permit their children to do. The viewpoint of the parent was not
